Graphic Story Assignment...
Use your colored pencils, and other art materials...
...to create your own personal Graphic Story.
|
Instructions...
The story. |
|
Think of something memorable that happened to you, maybe in recent history, maybe long ago...
Other options are to tell someone else's story or make a story up, or maybe explain how something works or how something is the way it is (like the coyote dog tail story).
List the actions and what the characters might have said in the order they occurred. |
The plan. |
|
|
On a scratch paper, make thumbnail sketches for each scene.
Decide how many of your thumbnail sketches you want on your page, their position, size and shape.
- square
- circle
- rectangle...
In each thumbnail sketch each scene with the speech bubbles, thought bubbles and narrative boxes.
Stick figures and shapes are fine for now. |
|
The layout. |
|
|
Draw the panels in your sketch book or on a separate piece of paper.
Use pencil to draw in each panel. |
|
The actors. |
|
|
Draw important details to help tell the story.
Think about:
- facial details and expressions
- specific visual details that are essential to the story
Draw speech bubbles, thought bubbles and narrative boxes. Leave them blank for now.
Add emanata to show what the character is feeling, for example,
- @$%#$ to indicate anger
- ? to indicate confusion
- sweat beads to indicate anxiety
Add motion lines.
Add a title and by line (your name)
|
|
The finish. |
|
|
Use a pen or marker to outline panels, shapes and to write the speech bubbles, thought bubbles and narrative boxes.
Gently erase the pencil lines.
Use colored pencil and other art materials to color in the shapes, and to add details and interest to the story. |
Make something meaningful to you.
Be creative!
